As a child, Jake Sully could not imagine a better future. He lived on a lush alien world with his parents, including his beloved twin sister/best friend Katara, and dreamed of the day they would be reunited again. As he grew into an adult, however, something changed. His travels took him to the Earth colony of Metropolis and he discovered himself to be the host for an ancient alien spirit—one that soon began to claim many others as its hosts as well. The native human population was decimated, and the aliens gained possession of the city. Jake was now a captive laborer. He resisted as best he could, but was eventually discovered by Neytiri (Zoe Saldana), a beautiful and feisty Na’vi girl who lived in the forest with other members of her clan. She allowed him to join them and took him to her leader, Mo’at (C. C. H. Pounder). There he was given an important task: to bring balance back to nature and reestablish harmony with all living things—beginning with his own kind.
Jake had no idea how to accomplish this monumental mission. It was then that he realized that he had an empathic connection to his twin sister, since they shared the same spiritual energy. They could sense each other’s presence, and she was able to see through his eyes. He found out that Katara wanted nothing more than for her brother to come home again, but she knew the master of Metropolis would never allow it unless Jake could disprove his belief that human bodies were less valuable than machines. She herself had tried before, with disastrous consequences.
In desperation, Jake turned to his most beloved teacher, Dr. Grace Augustine (Nicole Kidman), who had been a big help to him since his arrival on Earth. Initially inscrutable, she was finally persuaded to help Jake communicate with Katara and agree on a plan of action. With the help of her new friend Neytiri, they were able to persuade the Na’vi to send an emissary on behalf of their leader—which happened to be her sister’s fiancé, Prince Kovu (Cole Sprouse)—to the mouth of the Great River where Neytiri lived with her clan. 8881eaaddfaf86
